Freecycle Malaysia has Changed to Freecycle Petaling Jaya
The Yahoo group Freecycle Malaysia was started with the aim of first starting off as a national group, and as more members join, they will first get familiarised with the way freecycle works, and eventually split into local groups.
http://www.freecycle.org/ has demanded that groups with the name of a country should be changed to a local name, and thus the Yahoo Freecycle Malaysia has become Freecycle Petaling Jaya.

Freecycle Malaysia seem to be working
Although a lot of messages sent to the Freecycle Malaysia Yahoo group are spam (but which does not get through because new members' messages are moderated), and the group is a national group and not a local group the group seem to be working to some extend. Recently, there were a few OFFERS which found home near to its origin, and some OFFERS which were sent via the mail. It is the hope that eventually the group grows big enough and there are enough members who get familiar with the rules and enough local members have met to form local groups.
The rules are simple:
The rules are simple:
- things to be offered should be free, legal and appropriate for all ages
- messages title should start with the words OFFER, WANTED or TAKEN depending on the nature of the messages, followed by short description of the items and preferably, its locality
- members participate in the program at their own risk

Freecycle Petaling Jaya
Good news. A moderator of the Petaling Jaya freecycle group is now trying to activate the dormant group. Below is pasted the invitation:
This is an invitation to join http://groups.yahoo.com/group/freecycle_pj
The Freecycle Network, Malaysia, where one person's trash is another's treasure! We are "changing the world one gift at a time". This group is primarily for the inhabitants of Petaling Jaya. Our goal is to reduce waste by connecting people who are throwing away unwanted items with others seeking the same items. No item is too big or too small; but since this is a FREEcycle list, ALL items must be 100% free, legal appropriate for all ages.
Freecycle lies somewhere between the garage sale and the dump, and is much cooler than either. It's an innovative concept that harnesses the power of the Internet to do what the Internet does best -- eliminate the middleman and empower the individual. Freecycle allows for personal contact between donor and recipient -- each gets exactly what they want, and nobody is considered a 'charity case.' Many members both give and receive items on a regular basis. No overhead, no intermediaries, no money changing hands, no waste and no catch, and everyone's happy. Charities and NGOs may also post their needs here.
Use Freecycle to organise and DE CLUTTER.
Freecycle. One simple, brilliant idea that's changing the world one gift at a time.
